Sweet Potatoes? Really?

What do I even call this post? After such a long absence is anyone even out there? I think I can at least take comfort in knowing that my boys will like to see their photos and hear their stories so...this one is for Theron...and anyone else out there who cares.

When Theron was a baby I came up with a theory that he was allergic to sweet potatoes. He threw up every time I gave them to him. Though, the rational side of me wondered how much of that was just because he was a baby. I think the last time he had sweet potatoes was at about nine months old.
Over the years I have had occasion to mention to others that I think Theron is allergic to sweet potatoes but have always felt funny about it. Who really eats sweet potatoes on a regular basis? Why even mention it? Is the neighbor really going to give my boy sweet potatoes as a mid-day snack?
After five or so years of wondering if this theory could be proven I decided to try making french fries out of sweet potatoes tonight to go with our ribs, broccoli, and rolls. A few minutes ago my theory was proven to be sound as I watched Theron throw-up on the bathroom floor. When he finished Travis said, "Nice experiment." I'm not feeling so hot about my judgment right now. I do feel confident telling others that he has an allergy though. Was it worth it? I don't know maybe I should ask Theron. I don't really want to. I'm feeling a little sheepish. After all, he did protest at dinner and I did make him eat the slice of sweet potato. Does this fall under the abuse category? At least now when he is offered sweet potatoes on his mission he can confidently but politely decline the offer.
Sorry, T-man! Really.

I'm still reading too! And I call my Tanner T-man too :) At least he's allergic to something he can easily live without. And, now you know!

Well, you DID have to know for sure. I mean it has been a long time. That's really crazy though, being allergic to sweet potatoes. It's official now.

i think it was smart of you to experiment now that he's old enough to manage with the consequences. And i'm SHOCKED that he's allergic to sweet potatoes-- I had thought they were one of the few foods that are basically allergy free. I would have done the experiment too, and then felt sort of bad but sort of triumphant that I knew all along about this crazy random food allergy. Sorry I smiled when reading your post... :)

I think I would have done the same thing! Fun to see a post from you, even if it was at Theron's expense. :)

I totally think you were right to give it a try. And, my sister is also allergic to sweet potatoes. Severely. Last time she ate one she had to be put on three antihistimines several times a day for months to clear up the hives. (:

Travis' line is the best part of the story.

Yea, your back!!! I've missed your posts!! Um - I totally would've tried the same thing. Now you know. And better at your house than someone else's right? And Theron should forget sooner than later right? He's still young ;)

MISS you guys!

PS - I would like your dinner on my dinner table. Thanks!

We made Gavin eat chicken nuggets at a dinner out last month. Turns out they had egg in them and sent him puking too! Good times. Good moms :-)

We have a box of sweet potatoes sitting in our kitchen if you are still not sure and want to test it out again! Poor Theron, I'm sure he'll forgive you.

Nice. I know someone in our home who would welcome him quite lovingly as a new member of our family should he consider his options for getting away from his abusive mother. :0

I think the story is hillarious, although probably not at the moment and he will probably hold it against you for the rest of his life. It will be the story he tells when he's mad at you. Can't you just hear it. He will be mad at you about something and say "I don't like you, (or maybe use a stronger word if it is allowed in your house) and you don't love me, remember when you made me eat the sweet potatoes and you knew I was allergic to them!" So maybe this is more a dramatic representation of what my girls would say, but it might come back around.
