Go Bucks??

We were told on the airplane on the way to Columbus to look for a house that we would have to become Buckeyes.
We walked through at least seven houses with Buckeye basements, i.e. scarlet carpet, gray walls, scarlet leather couches with OSU logo printed on them, OSU posters and t-shirt hanging on the wall, and a big screen TV.
We've driven by countless number of houses outwardly painted in colors that scream, "GO BUCKS!"
We've seen front lawns spray painted with a scarlet and gray O.
We've seen far too many cars driving on the street permanently painted scarlet with OSU insignia on the doors.
We've seen shopping malls with 75% of the shoppers wearing red clothing.
We've learned that a Kroger grocery store parking lot with only three cars in it means game day and easy shopping.

On the way to church on Sunday we saw a license plate that read:
DI4OSU

We've seen it all.

Charlie's Art

All in a day's work...

Has anyone seen a red crayon lying around? I have a feeling there is more where this came from. This is Charlie saying, "NO, NO, NO!" How ironic...

Do I even need to ask if anyone has seen a black crayon lying around?

I think it is worth noting that this all happened while I was trying to solve our zucchini problem and making yet another double batch of zucchini bread. We may think twice about planting zucchini next year.

My Latest Read

I just finished reading the King James version of the New Testament in the Bible. For me this was quite a feat. I can't remember when I started it but it took a while to complete. I have read it once before but it was a long time ago. I was not surprised that I learned a lot of things that I hadn't before and rediscovered many things as well.

I am also reading a fictional book about people living at the time of Jesus Christ's ministry. Although it is a fictional, it is based around the writings in the New Testament. I have enjoyed considering the experiences recorded in the Bible with a new perspective. It has opened my mind. I can better understand the role of the Romans and their relationship with the Jews. I can better understand why many did not accept Jesus Christ as the Messiah that they were waiting for. I can better understand why they might not cling to His teachings and think they are as wonderful and fulfilling as I do. I know that the Bible is the Word of God and am grateful for the blessing that this knowledge is in my life. It gives me hope and happiness.

Here are a few of the things that stood out to me this time around:

St. Luke 6: 46-49 "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged it deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great."
  • I can't think of anything worse than to have Jesus Christ ask me why I am not following His teachings when I say I am committed to them. I want my foundation to be upon a solid rock.
Philippians 2: 14 "Do all things without murmurings and disputings:"
  • No explanation needed.
Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
  • I'd like to be more bold and courageous. There are many truths that I feel strongly about but sometimes hold back sharing with others, forgetting that if they mean so much to me, they might mean that much to others, too.
James 1 :22 "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."
  • I'd like to be a better doer all around.
James 3:2 "For in many things we offend all, If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body."
  • If I can more carefully control the things I speak about I will have accomplished a great thing and be more able to control other areas of my life where is fall short or err.
James 4:17 "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is a sin."
  • Once again, I'd like to be a better doer all around.
Peter 1:15 "But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversations."
  • I would like to be found talking to others about uplifting and encouraging things and when I speak of others it would be in admiration or compliment.
John 1:4 "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth."
  • I can't think of many things more fulfilling than this.

More Zucchini

I went out to the garden and (seriously) much to my dismay there were four more zucchini that were way too big to leave in the garden, so I picked them. What else could I do? We just made three batches of zucchini bread and hauled them around to anyone who had done anything even close to thoughtful for us in the last few days. I needed a new zucchini avenue. I tried this recipe out and I think it's a winner. Don't take my word for it. Try it. If you need zucchini, don't go to the store. Come to the Peterson market. Call first. Sometimes they have weird hours. It's family owned and operated, but free.

Summer Zucchini Pasta
1 pkg. spaghetti
3 tablespoons olive oil
course salt and pepper
1 small red onion cut into thin slices
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 large zucchini cut lengthwise into sticks
2 plum tomatoes cut lengthwise into strips
3/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Boil noodles in salted water. Saute 3 garlic cloves in 2 tablespoons of olive oil for 3 minutes. Add zucchini and 1/2 cup water. Let sit on medium heat for 10 minutes. Add tomatoes, onions, and 1 tablespoon oil. Salt and pepper to taste. Combine with Parmesan cheese.
*Side ideas: corn on the cob and garlic bread

Lost...

...one pair of shins.
Has anyone seen my shins? I seem to have misplaced them. They were here just yesterday. If you find them please let me know, but before you return them could you tan them up a bit to match my feet?

Still Two Fearless Hearts

It all started here...
...we jazzed it up a bit...
...decided we made quite a team...

...worked hard...
...loved...
...planned...
...plunged...

...and landed in pure bliss.
Seven years later we are still planning, working, loving, sometimes plunging (mostly our kitchen sink these days), and not so much jazzing.

I'll remember that we spent the weekend with the boys doing average things. I'll remember that Travis surprised me by making the zucchini bread I desperately needed to make. I'll remember watching him pin wrestle with the boys. I'll remember how fun it was to laugh with him as we walked out of Wal-mart. I'll remember how funny it is that everyone we walk past wants to stop us and ask if by some small chance the baby in my belly is a girl. Many feel the need to console us. Everyone knows someone with all boys and wants to share their story. Each time we try to think of something to say in response that hasn't already been said to portray the excitement we feel. Mostly, today I'll remember that I love this guy more than any other. It's fun to remember, even when I haven't forgotten.

They Call It "Memory Lane"

I had fun reading this on Laura's blog and everyone likes to be remembered so...try this tag on for size.

(just in case you are a visual rememberer)

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my comments.

The Sound of Silence

I wonder if the Beatles were singing about the early morning hours when one thinks, "My boys are leaving me alone for a few extra minutes so that I don't have to jump out of bed at 6:30am at the sound of the pitter-pattering feet." Scratch that, I am sure they were not.
Charlie came upstairs this morning as I was coming down to check on the silence with a nervous feeling in my stomach. I met him on the stairs. He was holding out a Cheerio saying, "Nack, nack (snack)." I came into the kitchen to find this.

Sadly, it didn't stop there. While I was cleaning up the "Nack", Isaac called down from upstairs, "Mom! Charlie's playing in the water in the bathroom." No pictures for this one. It's getting old. But seriously, it's only 8:30am!! I did just have a wonderful thought...today it Charlie's first day to go into the nursery at church. If we make it there...

Independence Day

This morning Isaac said, "Well, mom, if this is Independence day then why didn't you let me choose my own clothes to wear today?"
We started off the day at the parade. This was the first parade the boys have ever attended. Their expectations weren't set too high. Isaac said he just wanted to see the people blowing horns and the drummers. Two High School bands passed by us and the boys got lots of candy. Everything Isaac wanted and more.
It rained most of the time but it didn't put a damper on our fun, although the stroller did cramp Charlie's style a bit.
The boys broke out the flag and sang patriotic songs with Travis.

We ended the night with fireworks. Charlie was so funny with his frequent exclamations of "Wooo!!" and "Bang!!"

And finally the moment you have all been waiting for...the Independence Day production.
